Here are answers to some common questions that folks have when visiting FBC:

What exactly is a Bible Church?
A Bible Church is a church that seeks to be faithful to the Bible. In this, we are not unique. There are many churches in Decatur of various denominations which have the same objective. While we have a great appreciation for the creeds and confessions of various Christian traditions, our ultimate authority is the Scripture. We believe that the Bible, properly understood, is a relevant resource for skillful living in our relationships with other people and with God. It is our guide in dating, marriage, parenting, business dealings, community involvement, and worship.

That sounds like a church I've been to before.
Not surprisingly, our commitment to the Bible has kept us in line with the historic, traditional, orthodox Christian faith as received from the apostles who walked with Jesus. We have noticed that in the Christian family, there are significant differences between various groups and denominations, but we have also noted a remarkable agreement on the core essentials of Christianity. These core essentials are the basis of our fellowship with other fine churches in our area.

Will I be singled out as a visitor?
Absolutely not. We make a general announcement to visitors during the service that welcomes them and asks them to fill out a Visitor's Card if they would like more information about FBC. We do not ask them to stand or identify themselves.

What do people wear?
We don't make a big deal about what people wear to church. We would never want this to hinder anyone from coming to our church, and especially to Christ. At the same time, we believe there is value in teaching our children that respect is often communicated even in the way we present ourselves. You will see people in suits and ties and also in casual business wear.

Am I supposed to put money in the offering plate?
Before the message we pray for our missionaries and praise the Lord for everything he is doing in our lives. We also will pass the offering plate during a worship song. This is meant for members and regular attenders who are lead to give back to God. We ask visitors not to feel obligated to participate, but to relax and enjoy the service.

What about Communion?
Occasionally we offer communion during Sunday morning services. This is a time of self-reflection and praise for the sacrifice that Jesus Christ has made on our behalf. Because of that, this time of fellowship with the Lord is reserved for professing Christians. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, then we invite and encourage you to participate.

Welcome to First Bible Church!
Whether you are moving in from out of town or moving across town, we hope you enjoy your new home. If you are new to the Decatur area, you are probably facing a daunting “to-do” list, unpacking boxes, hanging pictures, finding good doctors, registering children in a new school. . . the list goes on.

You may also be looking for a church family. Perhaps you have already discovered that Decatur is blessed with many good, friendly, strong churches, making your decision even more difficult. Though our desire is that you visit with us before you make your decision, our prayer is that you find the church family where you and your family can be best served . . . and best serve.

What can I expect when I arrive at First Bible Church?
From the very moment you walk into the building, our Greeters will welcome you. Once inside, please come to our “Welcome Center,” located immediately inside the front doors at the Main Sanctuary entrance. Please introduce yourself so that we may assist you.

Where should I take my children?
Babies through two year olds will love our professional nursery staff. Our nursery is located in the southwest wing on the first floor. There you will register your child and can expect to get a pager to carry with you into the service.

Preschool Children aged 3 to 4 years old will have a ball with other children while learning about the Bible in a safe, warm, caring and age-appropriate environment. Our Lighthouse Welcome Center, located on the first floor in the southwest wing.

Kindergarten through Elementary aged children enjoy learning about Christ through creative Bible-based teaching. The K-5th grade Welcome Center is located on the first floor of the northeast wing.

Middle School and High School students meet during the Sunday morning 9:15 hour on the second floor of the southwest wing.

What is the service like?
As you enter the FBC Sanctuary, expect to be handed a Sunday morning bulletin. Ushers are available, if needed, to help you get seated.
A typical Sunday morning service consists of singing and music from an inspiring group of artists. Our Worship Ministry staff and volunteers provide a blended style of worship music including familiar Christian songs.

The Pastor’s or guest speaker’s message will show you how God’s Word is very much applicable and relevant in our culture and the 21st century.

What about after the service?
Occasionally, following the second morning service, we host a Newcomer Reception so that you can meet the staff and leadership. Here, you will discover more about our church and enjoy some light refreshments in our comfortable Fireplace Room.
